Meet your host – Monique

Hi! I’m Monique Smit, your host and the proud owner of Houseboat Rotterdam. Since 2017 I’ve been living on this ship in my own apartment together with my pets, and I love sharing this special place with guests from all over the world. Living on the water is peaceful, inspiring – and just plain fun.

Houseboat Rotterdam is a converted old freighter built in 1937, now offering two cozy and comfortable apartments. It’s docked right in the city centre – with sights and aminities within walking distance. There’s a watertaxi stop just opposite the ship.

The ship still has original elements, and each space is thoughtfully styled to blend comfort with character.

What’s included in your stay:

  • Beds are made with by your host freshly laundered and ironed bedlinen.
  • There’s towels, vegan soap, shampoo and toilet paper provided.
  • In your own fully equipped kitchen you’ll find coffee, tea, sugar, powdered milk, olive oil, salt and pepper.
  • Private entrance and outdoor space per apartment where you can enjoy the bustling city as watertaxis stop right in front of the ship.
  • There’s central heating and in summer ventilators for you to use.
  • There are supermarkets and lots of restaurants, bars and shops within easy walking distance of the ship.
  • Your host is fluent in Dutch, English and German and enjoys sharing her love for the city of Rotterdam with you.

I aim to run this place as sustainably as possible: I launder everything myself, line-dry the laundry, and choose vegan cleaning products. It’s these little touches that make a difference. blad icoon

Hope to see you soon in Rotterdam!
